Grandpa Left a Box of Coins... but No Instructions

It happens all the time: a family inherits a box, album or cabinet filled with coins and has no idea whether it contains spending money, silver, gold or something collectible.

You do not need to know the difference between a common coin and a rare one before visiting Warren Exchange. That is our job.

We examine collections for:

  • Precious-metal content
  • Date and mint mark
  • Condition
  • Scarcity
  • Collector demand
  • Complete sets and key dates
  • Coins worth more than face or metal value

Some coins are valuable because of their silver or gold content. Others are desirable to collectors. Many are common - but it always pays to have the collection checked before spending, rolling, cleaning or discarding anything.

What Coins Do We Buy?

Bring us:

  • United States coins
  • Foreign and world coins
  • Gold and silver coins
  • Coin albums, folders and complete sets
  • Morgan and Peace silver dollars
  • Rolls, jars and accumulations
  • Silver dimes, quarters and half dollars
  • Tokens and medals
  • Certified and slabbed coins
  • Gold and silver bullion
  • Proof sets and mint sets
  • Entire inherited or estate collections
  • Commemorative coins
  • Paper currency and old banknotes

Not sure whether something belongs on the list? Bring it with you or text us a photograph at (401) 245-5001.

Please Don't Clean Your Coins

Cleaning a coin can permanently damage its surface and reduce its collector value - even when the coin appears brighter afterward.

Do not polish, scrub, dip or attempt to improve your coins before bringing them in. Leave coins in their original holders, albums, envelopes or boxes whenever possible.

You also do not need to remove coins from certified holders or reorganize an inherited collection.

Bring everything as you found it.

How Selling Coins at Warren Exchange Works

  1. 1

    Bring the complete collection

Coins can be brought in albums, rolls, jars, boxes or original holders. Keeping the collection together reduces the chance of something important being overlooked.

  2. 2

    We examine what you have

We look at coin type, date, mint mark, condition, precious-metal content and current collector demand. When appropriate, testing is conducted in front of you.

  3. 3

    We explain the collection

We help separate common coins, precious-metal coins and pieces that may have additional collector value.

  4. 4

Decide whether you want to sell

If you would like to sell, Warren Exchange can make an offer for individual coins or the entire collection.

Selling an Inherited Coin Collection?

You do not need to become a coin expert before settling an estate.

Keep albums, envelopes, labels, holders, receipts and handwritten notes with the collection. These materials may provide useful information about where the coins came from or how the collection was assembled.

Avoid dividing the collection among family members, taking coins out of holders or bringing valuable-looking pieces to several different places before the entire collection has been reviewed.

Start with the whole collection. It provides a clearer picture of what you have.
